About the Dialogue

Coastal cities generate a substantial share of global economic activity and serve as gateways for trade, tourism, fisheries, logistics and maritime industries. As climate risks intensify and urban populations grow, strengthening the resilience and competitiveness of coastal cities has become a shared international priority.

KKIMD brings together mayors, city leaders, policy makers, development partners, academia and industry to explore how coastal cities can remain competitive while becoming more resilient, sustainable and future-ready — moving beyond a conventional conference towards actionable collaboration, peer-to-peer learning and long-term technical cooperation.

Situated within the globally significant Coral Triangle, Kota Kinabalu combines exceptional marine biodiversity with rapid urban growth and climate exposure. As Sabah's capital and principal coastal, administrative and maritime gateway, it offers a fitting setting for international dialogue on the future of coastal cities.
